What Is The Difference Between Alexa Quick Links and Tasks?
Discoverability and shareability of Alexa Skills (applications that businesses can build for Amazon Alexa-enabled devices) is continuing to improve. In 2020, Amazon launched Alexa Quick Links and Tasks.
Alexa Quick Links are for marketers. Alexa gives you your own quick link that you can promote. No coding or additional work necessary. Every Skill comes with its own Quick Link, explained here.
Quick Links are a way to embed a link to your Alexa Skill in your website, email marketing blasts, social media posts and more, that allows a user to click a button to either launch an Alexa Skill immediately on one of their devices, or send their device a reminder for later to launch a skill.
As Jeff Blankenburg (Sr. Developer Evangelist at Amazon for Alexa) adds, Alexa Quick Links are a way to get the user to the entry point / beginning of a Skill.
Alexa Tasks are different. They are a way for a developer to add additional shortcut routes into a particular part of a Skill Experience.
Tasks map to custom intents, which basically means that you can take a user directly to a particular piece of content. Now, with Quick Links, you can create additional Quick Links for your Custom Tasks. More here.
Translation for Marketers — when you do this last piece, you can get Quick Links that take users to any point you want within your Alexa Skill, skipping the main menu welcome, etc.
